How to Overcome Fear of Failure & Gain Confidence in Yourself
“I’ve tried so many things, and I’m afraid I’m going to fail at this too.”
A woman once told me this. She was participating in wellness program that I was leading.
When she said this, I could relate.
Been there, done that.
I know what it's like to try different things and fail, repeatedly.
I know what it's like to resist setting goals as you think, “I don’t want to feel disappointed with myself, again.”
What I’ve Learned
Thanks to some good mentors over the years, I've learned this:
Failure isn't the problem.
Failure can actually be a great teacher.
The problem is the wrecked confidence that often accompanies failure.
When we get a handle on that, failure is no longer a big deal. It's just another lesson. It doesn't define what we're capable of.
If you’ve struggled with self confidence…
If you've struggled with confidence in yourself, due to failed efforts in the past, I encourage you to ask yourself:
How can I treat setbacks and failures as simple lessons... not "proof" of what I'm capable of?
How can I learn the lesson and keep improving my skills?
I’d love to hear about your experience.
What is something that has helped you to overcome fear of failure? I’d love to hear about it. Leave a comment below!
